OUTLINE DESIGN/CONCEPT DESIGN

This formal design process involves a site visit, detailed site survey and production of a technical plans for a new Concept Design drawn to a professional standard and to scale. Prior to starting the design work, we will also produce a Client Brief summarising your key requirements. This helps us to ensure that we have a clear understanding of your requirements so that we can meet and, hopefully exceed, these.

This service is best for clients that are looking for a professionally produced, new garden design drawn to scale which can then by shared with builders/landscape gardeners to construct the garden. Whilst not a full detailed design, it will be sufficient for small/medium gardens or where the client is able to project management the build of the new garden.

Note: For clients that wish to keep design costs to a minimum, the standard Outline Design package can be supplemented with ad-hoc consultancy if required for specific additional tasks (eg. a more detailed planting plan showing the exact proposed positions of plants).

Activities Undertaken

  • Conduct site visit to discuss client requirements and complete client questionnaire

  • During site visit, take detailed site measurements and conduct site survey & analysis (noting aspect, gradients, wind exposure, access issues etc).

  • Draw up a survey plan of existing garden (to scale)

  • Develop outline Concept Plan showing proposed new garden layout, hard landscaping and key features.

  • Produce a presentation board (‘mood board’) showing images of proposed key plants, features, colour schemes and hard landscaping materials.

  • Produce Sectional View diagrams if there are significant level changes in the new garden.

  • Produce 3D sketches of key aspects of the design (eg. new bespoke features such as walls, structures, water features etc) if required to help the client better visualise the proposed design.

  • Present the outline design deliverables to the client and note down any proposed changes

  • Incorporate one set of revisions to the outline plan before the final outline plan/concept plan is delivered.

Cost

Outline design costs vary depending on the size and complexity of the garden (ie. level changes, extent of hard landscaping/construction required etc) but are typically between £400 and £1000.

The outline design cost is typically around 4%-5% of the overall build cost. For a larger, complex garden with a budget of £20,000 the cost would therefore be around £800-£1000.

To avoid any misunderstandings, a fixed price, written quotation will be produced prior to any work commencing.
